Snow, Carlisle, Liefooghe, and Jadallah finish first in Race 2.

Summary of AMD/Marin Karting Rotax Challenge race 2 and Jim Russell Championship Series race 1:

With the threat of rain, the first Rotax Saturday Series race was underway. Turnout out was very good due to the growth in the Rotax classes as well as the addition of 6 Junior HPV-2 entries, moving over the TaG Masters class from the TaG series, and adding the TaG Master Light class this year. Practice and Qualify went well, dry track. But during the second Prefinal of the afternoon, the drops started coming down and by 2:00, it was raining. But the majority of racers put on the rain tires and rain slickers and sloshed it out in some great rain racing, with several surprising results.

AMD-Marin Karting Rotax Masters and Rotax Masters Light

This was the first race of the Rotax Masters Light class (365#) as a local option class. 8 Lights entries and 5 regular Rotax Masters entries took to the track and had a great day through the Prefinal. David Carlisle (CRG, Masters) lead all but the last few feet of the Prefinal when Masters Light driver Bryan Hughes (Biesse) won the drag race out of the last turn to just nip David at the line. Masters drivers finished in the next 4 positions followed by the remainder of Masters Lights drivers.

The Main was run in the rain and only 4 Masters showed up to take the green flag. Again Carlisle drove to a strong win followed by Jay Brosius (CGR), Chris DeBruin (CRG) and Peter Boot (Intrepid).

AMD-Marin Karting Senior Rotax

The entire Senior Rotax field of 10 drivers took the green in the rainy Prefinal and Main. Clayton Snow (CRG) won the pole, Prefinal, and main with a convincing 22 second victory to dominate the class. Michael Ostrowski (Energy) had a strong second in Qualify, but had some difficulty adjusting to the wet conditions and finished the Main in 4th. Gregory Liefooghe (Birel) improved on his 4th place Qualify to finish 2nd in both the Prefinal and Main. David Arnstein (CRG) had a steady day holding down the 3rd place spot in the Main. Carlos Calderon (CRG) finished up in 5th to take the last trophy spot.

AMD-Marin Karting Junior Rotax

7 Junior Rotax made up the largest turnout ever for this class. Veteran Rotax driver Neil Alberico put his Top Kart on the pole by nearly ½ of a second, but in the rain of the Prefinal, Neil had problems with the wet traction and finished 4th. Jordan Jadallah (CRG) proved to be the rain master winning the Prefinal and Main, but a surprise was Cameron Pringle (GP) who qualified 5th who worked his way up to second in both the Prefinal and Main, finishing less than 2 seconds behind Jordan. Alberico improved in the Main to take third with Mikee Mejia (Birel) and Andrew Novich (CRG) taking 4th and 5th.

AMD-Marin Karting Rotax DD2

This was the first official 2 speed Rotax DD2 race in the Jim Russell series. This class ran in the series twice in 2006 to test the entry strength and the numbers looked promising. 12 DD2 karts took to the track, the largest turn out anywhere in the country for a regional series race. After a dry qualify in which Gregory Liefooghe (Birel) was on pole ahead of 2006 World Finals qualifier January Grove (CRG) and Marin Karting’s own Kris Shaw (CRG). But with the rain slowing down the event, the last two classes of the day had their afternoon format changed to a 15 lap Main only, where as the other 4 classes ran an 8 lap Prefinal and a shortened 10 lap Main. In the Main, Gregory put on the best display of rain mastery as he lapped all but the second place kart. Kris Shaw took a comfortable 2nd place with Glen Poy-Wing (Swiss Hutless) improving on his qualify to finish 3rd. Chris DeBruin (CRG) and Gary Scharlach (CRG) rounded out the top 5.

Since there was no Prefinal, the Qualify results will be considered the Prefinal and those that did not run the Main will be awarded positions and points based on how they did in the Qualify. See the attached results sheet to see the final positions for Race #1.
