2007 Rotax World Finals Final Report
In Juniors it was not too exciting. Justin Coplan had a good prefinal and Main but did not move up much, he finished 16th. Jarvis Genarri finished 21st. The best drive of the day came from our roomates from England. Kris and I shared a condo with the a junior driver and his mechanic. Luke Varley crashed in the prefinal and started 31st. He finished 6th in the Main making up 25 positions in the Main. Watch for the name Luke Varley in the future.
In the Senior race, again no excitement. Arie Ouimet took a 13th overall in the Main and Thiago Parrizinho took about 20th.
The DD2 races were a different story.
In the Prefinal, Joey Collins got a great start and went from 20th to 10th. Curtis Cooksey started next to Kris in 32nd and by the time he and Kris got to turn one, it was blocked. Curtis went outside and finally got through and made up some positions, he finally finished 21st in the prefinal. Kris had to got around the wreck down the inside and had to go into the sand on the inside, coming out in 2nd to the last. Behind Kris was a really fast driver. Kris and this driver from New XZealand started the chase and boy did they start moving fast. The NZ driver got by Kris and Kris then stayed on his bumper. From about 30thm they got up to 17th, then the big crash. The NZ driver went to make a pass, the other driver and he collided and Kris went to inside to pass, then NZ driver turned hard to the inside and took out Kris front end, lots of damage. Kris almost went over the steering wheel. Kris is out, finished 31st.
In the Main, Collins worked his way up to 4th at one time, but finally had to settle for 6th, the best US driver finish. Cooksey had a clean drive and finished 14thm, then came in 1 pound light, a tough DQ. Kris' drama was not over. Started 31st, he got a good start, moved up 7 spots on due to another turn one accident, then got punted at the end of the straight away and spun out. He recoved and was 30th,, then he charged again. The chasiss was not that good, it was bent from the prefinal, but he still turned in times with a half second of the winner. He caught up and made some passes and finally finishing 22nd. But with some of these guys was nuts Kris says, they block like crazy and they bash each other alot. It was wild.
So ends an also Finals day. Lots of what ifs that could have lead to a top 10 finish.
