A note to the racers
Before [the] race on April 19-20, I would like to go over some of the details of the 2008 season.
As we have seen, there have been some changes this year, but many things will be the same.
Lets go over what is the same:
1. Expect much of the same race crew this year.
2. Race Director will be Ric Shaw.
3. Entry fees will still be $100. Entry fee will include the transponder.
4. Second class fee will remain at $65.
5. Engine rules will be similar to last year, Rotax National Rules for the Rotax classes, IKF rules for the other classes.
6. Bridgestone YHC tires for all the non-Rotax classes. Rotax karts will use the new Mojo D2 tire for 2008.
7. Winner takes all in the Main and same points for the Main, ie 200 for 1st, 175 for 2nd, 155 for 3rd, etc.
8. Trailer parking on Friday is available for those that are racing Saturday.
9. Pre-registration on Friday for both days.
10. J&D's Snack shack will be back this year.
11. ERC 98 will be the fuel for all classes except 80 Shifters who will use the ERC 110.
12. Oil will be Burris Hi-Rev Castor or the official Rotax Motul 800-2T Off Road Synthetic. Oil ratios the same as last year except that the Gazelle will go to a 20:1 ratio.
Here are some of the changes, and most of them are good.
1. No fee for pit passes. No, your eyes did not trick you. The Russell team wants to simplify the whole race entry thing by making all pit passes free. The only thing is everyone will have to sign at the entrance to the track, get a free wrist band, then go into the pits.
2. Registration will be in the ProShop. All the drivers then have to go to the ProShop to see Tina and enter the race.
3. The $5 off transponder discount will not be offered this year. OK, this is not a good thing, but it is not a real bad thing.
4. Tech Director will be Joe Whitson. Joe will be doing much more tech on Rotax this year learning from the likes of Don Moremister and Scott Evans.
5. Registration opens at 7:30 on Saturday and at 8:00 on Sunday. Get some extra sleep.
6. First Practice will be at 8:30 on Saturday and 9:00 on Sunday.
7. Practice on Friday will be on the same layout as the race layout.
8. Bonus points will be awarded to the Prefinal. The top 5 drivers will get bonus points, 50/40/30/20/10 to be awarded.
9. More Practice time this year. 2-15 minute sessions on Saturday, 3-15 minute sessions on Sunday. There will be NO motor break-in session this year. Sunday drivers may not have to come for extra practice days with 3 sessions in the morning.
10. And lots of great prizes. Expect a major announcement prior to the first race on the prize package that Jim Russell is putting up for the series this year. In addition, Marin Karting has secured a number of prizes to add to the Rotax classes. A complete handout of the prizes will be available at the first race.
11. A complete set of series rules will also be available at the first race.
The classes will be as follows:
Saturday Program: 8:30 to 4:30
Russell Cadet Arrive and Drive
Russell Junior Arrive and Drive
Junior Rotax - 320#
Senior Rotax - 365#
Rotax Masters - 405#
Rotax Masters Light - 365# (runs with the Rotax Masters class, scored separate)
Rotax DD2 - 385#
Sunday Program: 9:00 to 3:30
Junior 1-Comer and Junior HPV1 combined - 225#
Junior HPV2 and Junior Puma combined - 310#
Junior 1 Gazelle - 225#
80 Grand Masters - 385#
Track layout for April 19 and 20: Original National Track layout
The full track layout sequence will be announced April 19. But expect a reverse national track race this year. The Motorcycle air fence will be used so as to make the run off area safer, a good tool to add to karting tracks.
Friday Practice on April 18 will be from 1:00 to 6:00.
See the race schedules that are attached.
If you have any questions, contact me.
Hope to see many of you at the first race.
Thanks, Ric Shaw
