Racer News: Northern California CRG/Rotax DD2 driver Kyle Gimple wins at Laguna Seca.

Last weekend, Kyle Gimple, CRG/Rotax DD2 pilot in the Northern California Rotax Challenge, drove in the Skip Barber Racing School Western F2000 and MazdaSpeed Challenge Series.

On Saturday, Kyle had two practice sessions before the qualifying race. The drivers were able to run on dry pavement for the entire day. Kyle qualified 6th in the qualifying race. This set him up for Sunday's two races.

Sunday started out cloudy and cold, but no moisture falling from the sky. During the first race, the weather was extremely cold, but dry. Kyle made two very good passes and ended up finishing 4th. Kyle thinks if he had just 1 more lap, he could have taken over 3rd.

The second race however was run in the rain. Kyle started 4th. He drove a great rain line and ended up with the fastest lap time of the race. After the leader had problems along with some of the other drivers, Kyle pulled off his first win at Laguna Seca and won with a 9 second lead.

Kyle has moved from 12th in points to 5th in points. Two race weekends down, four to go.

Next stop for Kyle is Sebring International Raceway in central Florida for the Skip Barber Karters Shoot-out. We will keep you posted!
