Racer News: Industry415 Announces Castaneda Wins Again in Opening Round at Infineon Raceway

(Sonoma, CA) Once again, Troy Castaneda took the top spot on the podium in DD2 this past weekend at the opening round of the Jim Russell Northern California Rotax Championship at Infineon Raceway.

Coming off a victory in the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas, Troy was looking to continue his success and he did just that. Choosing to stay with used tires for qualifying, Castaneda made the most of it by putting his DD2/CRG on pole by almost 8 tenths in front of the rest of the field. On the starting grid before the heat race, Troy noticed that his right front tire was very low on air, but at the same time was motioned to begin the warm up. Castaneda went out on track feeling that he would be able to race. The green flag waved and with a clean start off they went. Taking the lead in turn one, Troy began to pull a gap and never looked back. Even with a flat tire he took the heat race win, clocking in with a fast time equal to his fastest qualifying lap.

Resolving the issue with the flat tire, Castaneda started out on the inside front row for the main event. Taking the green flag and the lead, Troy stormed off into the distance and began setting fastest lap after fastest lap. By the end of the 18 lap final, Troy was able to lap every kart in the field, except for second place which he was able to gap about ¾ of a lap or approximately 38 seconds.

“The kart felt absolutely perfect all weekend. I was so comfortable and relaxed that I felt I could do almost anything with the kart,” said Castaneda after the race.

The next round of the Northern California Rotax Challenge will be May 2 at Infineon Raceway. In the meantime, Troy will continue testing and preparing for an exciting 2009 season.
