TC Makes it Three for Three

(Sonoma, CA) Last weekend concluded the third round of the Northern California Jim Russell Championship. Troy Castaneda, 19, continues his winning streak by taking his third win in DD2 in the first three races this season. This particular weekend was more difficult in the sense that he took up the challenge of competing in two classes during the weekend. Troy joined the senior Rotax class for the day as well.

Racing “double duty,” Castaneda had a bit more on his hands. Qualifying 5th in senior and 2nd in DD2, Troy had his work cut out. With very minimal testing in senior, Castaneda focused more on that class. At the end of the pre-final, he finished 3rd in senior and 1st in DD2. Making small changes to both chassis’ and motors, Troy was ready for the main events. In senior, Troy quickly made the move to second at the first corner and started pushing first place hard. Unfortunately after only a few laps, his motor began to overheat and lost a lot of power. From that moment on, all Castaneda could do was fight to hang on to his position. At the end of the race Troy was able to hang on and finish in the top 5. As for DD2, Castaneda made a clean start into the lead with second place close behind. Again after only a few laps, Troy suffered motor issues. Exiting turn one, TC’s motor lost power for a split second and suddenly lost the lead. Fighting hard for the rest of the race and driving well, Castaneda reeled the leader back in and re-took the lead and the race win, making it three for three.

The next round will take place July 18th in Sonoma at Infineon Raceway.
