The fourth round of the Jim Russell Norcal Rotax Challenge dawned with great mild weather in the Jim Russell Karting Center at Infineon Raceway. The anticipation of the first time running of the Reverse National track filled the air. Also a visit from Rotax National Distributor SSC Racing also gave the day a ‘special occasion’ atmosphere. Add another record turn out (52 entries) for the Norcal Rotax Challenge and the scene was set for a good day of racing. In addition to the great racing, a couple of Junior 1 drivers, Michael Avansino and Nitro Nick Sommers, drove the Rotax MicroMax karts during the day.
      Senior Rotax

This was largest class of the day (16 karts) as well as the most competitive field this year. Half dozen drivers had their eyes set on breaking the 3 race win streak of point’s leader Gregory Liefooghe. But in the Qualify, it was business as unusual as Liefooghe (CRG) took pole with Cameron Pringle (CRG) off pole followed by Jake Mottaz (Birel), Matthew Powers (Birel) and Nikola Radosavljevich (Birel). The much anticipated battle evaporated within 2 turns after the green flag of the start of the Pre-Main. First Pringle got spun off going into the first turn and had to make a charge through the field. Going into turn 2, Liefooghe sensed something wrong with the kart and pulled off. The battle with Liefooghe is over. Jake Mottaz took control of the race and went on to a much deserved 3 second win over Powers and Nikola. Pringle eventually finished 8th. In the Main, all eyes were on Liefooghe, did be have time to work his way through the field in 18 laps. Or was this the day that the young Mottaz would take his first feature. At the start, Mottaz took the lead followed by Powers and Nikola with Pringle moving up quickly to 4th. Pringle was the driver on the move, working through the 3 Birel drivers to take the lead and then started pulling away. But on lap eight disaster for Pringle, his chain came off. Powers took over the lead, but Liefooghe had been smoothly working through the field and now was in contention. On lap 9, Liefooghe made the pass for the lead and never looked back. Powers and Nikola battled for 2nd with Mottaz falling back a bit with a slow leak in one of his front tires. Nikola then made the pass to take over 2nd only to drop a wheel on the last lap to give back the position to Powers. At the end, Liefooghe took a 4 second win to make it 4 Mains in a row. Powers was second with his best finish of the year and Nikola a close 3rd and Mottaz 4th. In 5th was David Arnstein (CRG), yes the same driver who took second in the DD2 race. David is the oldest driver in the Senior field, but he still drives faster than most of the kids. Liefooghe now has a comfortable lead in the Senior points chase with Nikola taking over 2nd from Mottaz who falls to 3rd. Raymond Bustamante Jr is in 4th and Kierstin Gee 5th in the points chase.

Junior Rotax

2007 Junior Rotax Champ Jordan Jadallah made only his second Norcal race this weekend due to a very busy schedule running Stars and Norcal IKF races. Jordan (CRG) started right where he left off in his last race by taking the pole ahead Bryce Hylbert (Birel), Brody Zink (Birel) and 2 time winner Donavon Wheeler (Birel). In the Pre-Main, Jordan led for most of the opening laps, while Wheeler continued to pick off karts. Wheeler then made the pass near the end of the race. Jordan then made a pass attempt at the turn 3 hairpin. All looked good then the karts touched while side by side and Jordan’s kart jumped over the front wheel of Wheeler. The next 2 karts of Hylbert and Jordan Miller (Birel) then got tangled with the two leaders and Brody Zink rolled under all of them to take the win. Jadallah recovered to take 2nd, Hylbert 3rd, Bobby Tifft (CRG) in 4th and Nick Camusi (Italkart) in 5th. Miller finished 6th and Wheeler DNF’d with a broken front end. In the 18 lap Main, Jadallah opened up a comfortable cushion and drove on to a 6 second win. But the real racing was for 2nd. Zink and Hylbert went at it for all 18 laps, both putting in their best efforts of the year. In the end Zink took the 2nd, Hylbert 3rd , Wheeler 4th 2 seconds back and Bobby Tifft taking 5th. In the points, Donavon Wheeler has a comfortable lead over Brody Zink, Mikee Mejia 3rd followed by Hylbert.

Rotax Masters Light

The Lights class is a Norcal region only Rotax class. But it has become popular for the lighter driver over 32 years old. In Qualify, Mike Lawler (CRG) took the pole by a half second over Mary Beth Wilson (CRG) and Marc Pingol (Swiss Hutless). In the Pre-Main, Mike took the early lead and pulled away for a convincing 7 second win over Wilson with Pingol another 8 seconds back. 4th went to Mert Solis (Austerick). In the Main, Lawler again took a quick lead and stretched it out to take another 7 second lead. Being in the lead was new for Lawler, in all his other races this year he has had to start in the back due to mechanical problems and work his way up for two 2nd place finishes. But there were no such problems today. Pingol got by Wilson at the start but could not hold off the fast improving Wilson. Mary Beth made the pass and then held onto to take a much deserved 2nd just a second in front of Pingol. Mert Solis was 4th and new comer Leo Montero (Intrepid) was 5th. In the points chase, Pingol still holds onto 1st, followed by Wilson, Lawler and Solis.

Rotax Masters

The heavier brother to the Masters Light class is the official National Masters class at 405 pounds. Craig Corwin came over from the ProKart G1 Masters shifter class to run a Rotax kart for fun and fun he had. Craig (MBA) took the poll ahead of veteran David Carlisle (CRG) and Jerry Pretti (CRG). In the 12 lap Pre-Main, Corwin took an early lead and looked like he would stretch it out. Then his engine got a miss in it and Carlisle started reeling Craig in. On the last lap, David made his move and went on to the win, Corwin 2nd and a much improved Chris DeBruine (CRG) took 3rd with Pretti 4th.
In the Main, Carlisle took the early lead with Corwin doing all he could do to stay close. Eventually Craig felt something was amiss and did not want to sacrifice the engine and pulled off after 14 laps. Carlisle then cruised to the win 13 seconds in front of DeBruine with Pretti 3rd with Race #1 winner Jay Brosius (CRG) 4th and Michael Guevara (Tonykart) in 5th. In the points chase, Pretti holds a 5 point lead over Carlisle followed by Brosius and DeBruine.

Rotax DD2

SSC Racing brought up 3 DD2 karts to rent to drivers and they were snatched up quickly. This made the DD2 field 10 karts. Norcal continues to have the largest turnouts of DD2 class karts in the country. And with the exception in this race of 16 year Kyle Gimple, the class is all Masters age drivers and boy do these drivers love these karts. In Qualify, David Arnstein (CRG) took pole more than 8 tenths faster than January Grove (CRG) and Glen Poy-Wing (Swiss Hutless). In the Pre-Main, Arnstein took the lead but was under pressure from Poy-Wing the whole way and took the win less than a second ahead of Glen. In 3rd, some 3 seconds back was Grove and Kimple (CRG) took the 4th after a poor start put him at the tail of the field. At the start of the Main, Arnstein and Poy-Wing got tangled up in turn one (maybe with some help from some friends) and both spun off course. Arnstein turned around and started his charge from the tail of the field but Poy-Wing was out with a broken kart. Grove took the lead with David Palic (CRG) in 2nd but Arnstein was moving quickly through the field. Grove’s lead was shrinking fast, but time ran out on Arnstein who came up short by less than one second and had to settle for the second. Palic was 3rd, Gimple 4th and Chris DeBruine (CRG) 5th. In the points chase, Arnstein remains out front with Grove in 2nd and Poy-Wing 3rd.

Next race, Race #5, will be again at Infineon on July 19 on the tough Reverse Sprint track layout, then off to Dixon for Race #6 on July 27.

The United States Rotax Kart Challenge program is proud to announce the return of a national points ranking system for all of it’s drivers competing in more than 25 local and regional RMax Challenge series around the country.
From 2002-2004 drivers were ranked by points they earned at their local series but because of many reasons the effort to gather, assemble and then report the standings became overwhelming so the program was discontinued. At the beginning of 2007 all membership and series administrative functions were moved to my office. From the beginning of 2007 one of my goals has been to bring back a national ranking system for our racers. After more than a year of research, development and testing we have a system that will allow us to recognize the top drivers in our local series. One of the main areas of concerns is always how to award points to drivers in series that only have a few participants versus large classes in the bigger series. What we have developed is a weighted points system using a multiplication factor based on the number of registered drivers in a class for each series. The more registered drivers the more points can be earned by those participating. We believe this will showcase the best drivers in the country in weekly competition.

This system is not designed to take away from our annual Grand National Champions is each class. This is where the best racers in the country compete against each other for the right to stand on the podium. But we also know that there are a lot of top quality drivers who are not able to attend our premier event and this is a way to recognize them also.

For the 2008 season we will count the best 5 races for each registered member and publish these rankings every 2-3 weeks. The season concludes in December and at this time we will announce the National Points champions top 4 runner ups in each class. We will also establish a prize fund to be awarded to the top 5 in each class, this includes the new Micro Max class. In 2009 we will increase the points to the top 6 finishes for season awards.

We have a lot of racers competing in local challenges all over the country and only a small percentage of them are able to attend the US Rotax Grand Nationals each year. We want to make sure every registered RMax Club Member who competes at the local level is recognized, these racers are the foundation of our program.

The rankings for each class, an explanation of the system used to assign the points and a Q & A section can be found at www.usrmaxnrd.com. The next update is scheduled for the first week of July.

LeMans Karting Signs as Major Sponsor of Premier Northern California Rotax Challenge Series
Bay Area indoor kart racing center supports series racers with valuable ‘seat time’; bridges new drivers to the sport of outdoor karting.

LeMans Karting, located in Fremont California, is the official indoor kart racing facility of the 2008 Jim Russell Northern California Rotax Challenge. As part of developing a strong partnership between indoor and outdoor karting, LeMans Karting will offer track time to all active Northern California Rotax members, making LeMans Karting more affordable than ever. Every Norcal Rotax member will receive a gift certificate for every Rotax race entered, for the rest of the race season. That’s right, a gift certificate to every member at every remaining Rotax race this year!!

“Indoor karting offers the least expensive and most convenient way for all racers to gain precious ‘seat time’, a necessary component to winning,” said Rick Gaan, owner of LeMans Karting, Fremont. “This sponsorship allows me to support the local kart racing scene and establish a connection between indoor and outdoor karting.”

“I view the Jim Russell Northern California Rotax Challenge as attracting and cultivating the best outdoor racers locally, regionally and internationally,” continued Gaan. To compete at this level, some of the Series top drivers regularly participate in our Sunday and Tuesday night racing leagues, and their Rotax race results prove the value of this additional track time.”

“We are extremely grateful for generous support from LeMans Karting,” said Adrian Szwarcburg, Norcal Rotax Series organizer. “LeMans Karting has just purchased new karts with speeds up to 40mph and up to 12 drivers on the track at one time. They are a blast to drive. It’s a great place to introduce novice drivers to the sport of karting, or to take the family and race one another. It is a perfect way for Rotax racers to get additional seat time any day or night of the week.”

Prizes for the previous Rotax race held on May 31st:
• A $25 gift certificate to the class winners (5 classes) – to be used against any STANDARD racing package offered by LeMans Karting (not to be combined with any other ‘specials’).

• A $50 ‘Sunday Nite Heats’ gift certificate to the last 2 drivers in each class. The Sunday Nite Heats is a weekly heats competition that attracts the area’s fastest racers in wheel-to-wheel battle. This package consists of a Practice session, 3 heats races, a ‘double points’ semi-finals race, and a ‘final main’ race for the top 10 drivers of the evening. The overall night’s winner races the following Sunday’s Heats Comp for FREE as the ‘returning champion’. This package offers tremendous ‘bang-for-the-buck’ in racing seat-time.

Prizes for the remainder of the Jim Russell Northern California Rotax Season:
• A $25 gift certificate for each and every Rotax Member participating in each Rotax race – to be used against any STANDARD racing package offered by LeMans Karting (not to be combined with any other ‘specials’).

Round three of the Jim Russell Northern California Rotax Challenge was run at the Jim Russell kart track on the challenging Sprint track layout under mild overcast skies. 51 drivers came out for Race #3 equally the largest entry turnout that was set in April. 11 Junior Rotax drivers were entered, the largest Junior Rotax field in Norcal history.
Rotax DD2 summary – With seven entries, the 2 speed DD2 class proved to be very interesting. Glen Poy-Wing (Swiss-Hutless) took the pole ahead of David Arnstein (CRG) and David Polic (CRG). January Grove (CRG) took the third spot momentarily, but was 2 pounds light and sent to end of the field. In the Prefinal, Poy-Wing took the lead initially then was passed by Arnstein who then held the lead to the end of the 12 lap race. Grove worked her way back up to third only to come across the scales 2 pounds light again. Back to the pack for January. In the Main, Arnstein took the lead and started to pull out a slight lead. Grove made her way up to third in a few laps but could not make inroads in the lead of Arnstein or Poy-Wing. Then Glen spun and gave up 2nd to Grove but came back to over take the lady driver to claim 2nd overall by the end of the 18 lap Main. Grove finished 3rd, Polic 4th and Bruce Weir (Birel) 5th.

Junior Rotax summary – The largest field in Norcal history of 11 Junior Rotax karts took to the track this day. Race #1 winner Mikee Mejia (CRG) and Race #2 winner Donavon Wheeler (Birel) proved to very equal all day beginning with the Qualify where they turned in the same best lap with Wheeler getting pole due to his better 2nd best lap. Jordan Miller (Birel) returned to competition from a wrist injury and put down the 3rd best time in Qualify. At the start of the Prefinal, Andrew Wolocatiuk (Trackmagic) got spun around going through turn one and lost his great 4th place spot and had to charge after the pack once he got his kart pointed the right way, he eventually finished 10th. Wheeler led all the way, but just barely, as he took the win by less than a half second over Mejia. Miller was 3rd, Austin Root (Birel) 4th and Bryce Hylbert (Birel) was 5th. In the Main, Wheeler and Mejia checked out again, with the young lady Miller holding down a solid 3rd the whole 18 laps. But all the great racing was behind Miller as Joseph Keaton (Monza) and Brody Zink (Birel) both made their way past to take the 4th and 5th place spots by the end of the race. Wheeler pulled away near the end to win over Mejia to take his second win of the year and also take over the points lead in the class.

Rotax Masters Light summary – Veteran Rotax racer Joe Karrett was not planning to run this year, but just sitting around while others are racing was no fun. So Joe showed up with his tried and true Intrepid and pulled off the hat trick of winning pole, the Prefinal and took a 14 second victory in the Main. In Qualify, Mike Lawler (CRG) took 2nd and points leader Mark Pingol (Swiss Hutless) took 3rd. In the Prefinal, Pingol and Lawler switched positions in the final order behind Karrett.. In the Main, Lawler took over second on the start and held on for the 2nd place finish behind Karrett with Pingol another 6 seconds behind in 3rd. Irvin Sevilla (Tonykart) was 4th and Mary Beth Wilson (CRG) was fourth.

Rotax Masters summary – The 8 kart field Masters field had some great racing in the middle of the field all day long. In Qualify, Jerry Pretti (CRG) took pole ahead of Dan Dollosso (CRG) and 2007 champ David Carlisle (CRG). But in the Prefinal, the more seasoned Dollosso go the best of Pretti and took a 2 second win with Carlisle 3rd and Jay Brosius (CRG) 4th. In the Main, Brosius had a bit of a moment when he spun off and got some air over a small dirt mound. He returned to the race to take 6th overall. Dollosso controled the race and took the win by 3 seconds over Carlisle who got the best of 1st year driver Pretti, who finished in 3rd another 8 seconds back. In 4th was Chris DeBruine (CRG) and 5th went to Peter Boot (Intrepid).

Senior Rotax summary – 15 drivers took the track for what turned out to be a hard fought race day for the Senior Rotax class. Gregory Liefooghe (CRG) won both of the previous 2008 races, and he started out the day taking the pole over Jake Mottaz (Birel) and Cameron Pringle (CRG). In the Prefinal, Gregory cruised to a 3 second win over Mottaz who was another 4 seconds up on the 3rd through 5th drivers. But the battle for 3rd through 5th was where the action was with back and forth battling. In the end of the 12 lap Prefianl, Nikola Radosavljevich (Birel) took 3rd ahead of Raymond Bustamante Jr (CRG) and then Pringle. In the Main, Liefooghe pulled out to an early lead over Mottaz with Bustamante getting into 3rd and pulled open a gap over 4th. Nikola held onto the 4th spot but was under pressure from Pringle the whole way. It is worth noting that in 6th spot was the veteran of the class, David Arnstein (CRG). David not only won the DD2 class earlier in the day, but went from 11th qualify to 6th in the Main, not a bad days work. Also another driver to highlight is Jessica Harmon (Corsa). This was only her second Senior Rotax race, having come out of indoor karting at the LeMans karting center. She battled hard all day with some experienced Rotax drivers to take a well deserved 9th place. The hard luck award for the day has to go to Mathew Powers (Birel). After a 7th spot in Qualify, a 6th in the Prefianl, his kart would not start at the beginning of the Main. By the time they got the kart going, he entered the race 2 laps down and finished 14th, but he did not give up and recorded the 5th best lap time in the race.

Race #4 of the Jim Russell Norcal Rotax Challenge will be June 28 at the Infineon kart track. This will be a special race with the track layout being the never before run Reverse National track. Since the AMA motorcycle air fences will be used for this race, there will be only one practice day to run this track prior to Race #4 and that day will be June 27. Race #4 should be a very interesting race in deed.

We received an email from SSC West a few months back inviting Marin Karting to join SSC East, and top CRG/Rotax dealers to visit two of the largest karting companies in the world as their guest. Naturally we jumped at the opportunity to learn what goes into the products we sell and be able to share more information with our customers. Timing was also on our side as a WSK International kart race was scheduled to take place at the track located very close to CRG so we could see how the Europeans put on a race event and top drivers compete at the highest level.
Our first stop was BRP Rotax which is located just outside the small city of Wels in Northern Austria. . Wels is a beautiful town and human settlements in the area of the present-day City of Wels date back to the Neolithic Period, that is to around 3500 BC!

This BRP Rotax facility manufactures many types of engines including the Rotax kart engines. Kart engines are made on the same manufacturing lines as the Rotax engines that power Sea Doos, Snow mobiles, ATV, light aircraft and motor bikes (including engines for BMW and Aprilia). The factory produces about 1000 complete engines a week.

After being greeted by Helmut and Christian, who would be our hosts we were taken on a facility tour. No photos were allowed in the facility as BRP Rotax continues to do development work not only on all the motors produced but also in the machinery and processes used to manufacture them. We visited a large warehouse which is the logistics center for all parts used in manufacturing and also for spare parts. It is totally computerized and allows staff to pull parts just in time as needed in the manufacturing plant. Shipping of spares parts for kart engines is also shipped from this facility.

Next up was the actual manufacturing plant. It is vast, impressive and kept spotlessly clean. There are various assembly lines where engines are assembled largely by hand. On the day of our visit, BMW motorbike engines where being produced so we were able to see the process from start to finish. A large area was devoted to cutting, grinding and robotic machines that were finishing forged crankshafts. These were also being heat treated and cleaned up by robots. Several hundred people work in this building with many more in other R&D buildings which we could not visit.

After a traditional Austrian lunch of dumplings and schnitzel at the Rotax cafeteria, we met with Helmut and Christian to discuss the Rotax kart program in more detail. This was a great session of information exchange. We discussed how the Rotax program had grown in Northern California and also pointed out some of the issues we have seen with motors. As there have been 50,000 Rotax kart engines sold throughout the world, there is no issue that Rotax in unaware of. Thankfully, Rotax is working on rectifying everything we mentioned. A new style clutch is under development testing and new exhaust pipe welding techniques are being implemented all in an effort to keep the maintenance costs down for the Rotax owner.
At the end the day with BRP Rotax, Helmut and Christian presented us with a generous gift of Rotax jackets and some new Rotax marketing materials that we have already used in the shop.

CRG visit

After a 5 hour drive South from Wels, we arrived in Desenzano del Garda, Italy. This is the home on CRG, the largest kart manufacturer in the world. CRG also own Maxter kart engines and this facility is here as well.

We were greeted by Francesca who manages all sales outside of Europe. Francesca gave us a factory tour to see how the chassis where put together. CRG is the last hand welded chassis. CRG had implemented robots to weld the chassis but they could not produce the quality and finish that CRG demand. Look at the welds on a CRG chassis and you can see the difference.
CRG is expanding and constructing two brand new buildings next door to their current location. One building is already open and houses Maxter engine manufacturing and development. The new buildings are impressive and demonstrate the commitment of CRG to produce the highest quality and performing products in the karting world. Their dedication is evident. We had a chance to see some of the new developments. An Electronic paddle shifting ICC system, fuel injection, new rear hubs (we hand-carried a few sets back), front hand break controls and aerodynamic battery cover for TaG. Giancarlo Tinini, owner of CRG, is investing time and money in Maxter engine development and the results are starting to show.

Giancarlo, Francesca and everyone at CRG were gracious hosts and really looked after us.

A weekend of racing, European style

Our trip coincided with a WSK International kart race being held at the South Garda Karting track close to CRG so we decided to stay the weekend and get a firsthand look at top level karting in Europe.

This series comprises of 4 or 5 classes, only 3 are raced at the event. Even with just 3 classes, over 240 karts competed, about 80 per class. Drivers come from all over Europe and other parts of the world to compete in this series. This is top level karting and it shows. Everyone participating is either a factory driver or an arrive and drive driver with a factory team. The arrive and drive drivers pay upward of $25,000 for the 4 day race with a team. For this, they get use of a new chassis, new engine, team mechanic, fuel, tires and parts. Basically, show up with suit and helmet (neck collars are not required in Italy).
The scale of the factory pit setups is impressive. CRG had 3 big rig trailers where a pit tent setup is attached to the trailer. There are viewing platforms on top of the trailers which provide a great view of the track.

This event consisted entirely of 125cc electric start engines which conform to the CIK KF1, KF2 and KF3 class specifications. They run soft tires. KF3 (juniors) use what is equivalent to a YHB. KF2 and KF3 use even sticker tires. This makes for very fast racing. With only 3 classes running, racers get plenty of track time at these events. I can only imagine what the tire bill must be. Classes are split in half for practice, qualifying and heat races with only the top 36 or so qualifying for the final, so some racers go home early. In the KF1 and KF2 classes, all karts used an independent hand operated front brake and foot operated rear brake. This enables drivers to only apply front brakes or rear brakes at any time. This proves to be very effective and is now the standard setup.

At lunch time there was a driver presentation of all finalists.
The racing was fast, very competitive and with a style you don't see here very much. Much more contact between karts and lots of clean quick passing maneuvers. Rear bumpers are mandatory and it's a really good safety addition. I am sure the US will follow shortly.
As it turned out, CRG/Maxter won the premier KF1 class and also picked up 3rd place. A great result for the CRG team. The trophy presentation was F1 like with flags being raised and the national anthem of the winner being played.

The trip was very enjoyable and well worthwhile. Our special thanks to SSC West, SSC East, BRP Rotax and CRG for making the trip possible.

May 20, 2008, (Palm Springs, Calif.) -- SSC Racing is proud to announce that Mazda USA has assumed the position of presenting sponsor for the Rotax Max Challenge.
Mazda's reputation in the motorsports community is well-known, with involvement in auto racing stretching from grassroots amateur racing in the SCCA and NASA, to series such as Formula Drift, Grand-Am, the American LeMans Series, and the Atlantic Championship powered by Mazda.

Mazda's involvement in the Rotax Max Challenge sponsorship is an extension of its 2007 karting initiative. In 2007, Mazda sponsored the America's Team at the Rotax Grand Finals in Dubai, and in addition to its new sponsorship with Rotax, will once again sponsor the America's Team. Additionally, the Rotax Max Challenge will have a presence at select events at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca throughout 2008.

"Needless to say, we couldn't be more thrilled about our expanded association with Mazda," said Joe Ramos, President of SSC Racing. "Mazda is a partner who is going to take an active roll in the promotion of the Rotax Max Challenge.

Along with the announcement, SSC Racing has unveiled the new Rotax Max Challenge logo, reflecting the series' expanded relationship with Mazda.

"Mazda's Motorsports strategy is built on grassroots racing and giving drivers of all ages the opportunity to grow their careers in the business of motorsports," said John Doonan, Manager, Motorsports Team Development, Mazda North American Operations. "With the transitions that started taking place with regard to open wheel reunification over the last several months, we did our utmost to make sure than any and all Mazda series that were impacted (whether it was losing entire race events, adjusting television packages, and compiling prizes and awards, etc.) would remain strong for participants.

"The Rotax Max Challenge was certainly one of those elements that was impacted by losing the Champ Car title sponsorship. Our experience with the Rotax community during our 2007 karting initiative was very positive. So, when we learned of the changes, we called Joe Ramos and his team and let them know we were behind them and wanted to increase our involvement. It was pretty simple to increase our involvement with Rotax for 2008, but over the long term, Mazda wants to provide ladder opportunities for those who wish to grow their careers in motorsports and continue to support those who wish to stay at the grassroots levels."

About the Rotax Max Challenge

Whether your goal is to compete at the highest level or enjoy a weekend of racing with friends, the Rotax Max Challenge powered by Mazda is for you. It all starts at the local level and through a feeder system of local, regional, national, and world championships participants get the opportunity to test their skills against the best pilots in the world.

The series is based around the ROTAX kart engine. There are 5 classes, satisfying ages 8 to 80 and 4 of the 5 classes utilize the same FR-125cc engine. The newest class uses the revolutionary 2-Speed DD2 engine and races in a class by itself. All engines racing in the series are sealed, allowing for no modifications. This keeps costs down and ensures a level playing field -- letting driver skill pave the way towards victory.

With demographics ranging three generations the series targets a wide array of people: young, old, families and individuals. The largest class in the series is the Master Class catering to those 32 years and older. The average Master class driver is in his 30's to 40's, middle to upper management, well educated, looking to suffice his need for speed but not wanting to invest a lot of time or money. Its ability to attract individuals from this wide base is the reason Champ Car Rotax has catapulted itself to one of the fastest growing and exciting events in motorsports. After numerous, frustrating delays we finally received the rulebooks and members t-shirts last weekend. Shipping began on Monday and going as fast as humanly possible.
The members t-shirts and rulebooks, plus the new official USRMC logo, (presented by Mazda), and a new logo placement sheet are also included with the package. Everyone who submitted applications prior to April 15 was shipped their membership card and official decals. For those who have hats, polo shirts and the second members t-shirt ordered these will come in an additional shipment as soon as these are done. Just so everyone understands the delays this year were due to resolution of the cylinder inspection procedure and the change from Champ Car to Mazda as our presenting sponsor. We apologize for the delay but these issues had to be dealt with. All shipments are being sent to the address on your application via US Priority Mail. We are running into a few address confirmation problems and will be contacting members as these arise.

There are a few members who have not submitted requested birth certificates or have not resolved credit card issues. We will ship these once any problems are resolved.

If you have questions do not hesitate to e-mail me. If you need to contact me direct my office # is 574-289-3040. I request you send an e-mail unless you need to talk to me directly.

We anticipate that by May 30 all memberships in house without issues will be in the mail. We are shipping in the order they are received.
